Are you more of a beach or pool person? Whether by aquaphobia or simply due to a preference for a temperate, safer environment, some travellers to the South simply do not tire of long sessions lazing by the edge of attractive, inviting swimming pools.
Here are our five favourite pools in the Caribbean!
Breathless Riviera Cancun, Mexico Vibrant, chic and ultra-modern, this adults-only resort has a number of incredibly attractive pools, but it’s definitely the one in the Xcelerate area that will please party-goers. Facing in the direction of the sea and full of comfortable deckchairs, it features an incredible view of the Atlantic and a lively atmosphere at all hours of the day.
Jade Mountain, Saint-Lucia The Jade Mountain pools are an integral part of the structure and design of the hotel, and are not just simply pools surrounded by multi-storey buildings. Measuring between 400 and 900 sq. ft., each pool is unique in colour and shape; some infinity pools are even intended as an extension of the suite, with the added bonus of a sublime view of the legendary pitons of St. Lucia. Each pool has its own colour theme, and the tiles are handmade by craftsmen.
Costa Careyes, Mexico Lovers of luxury and privacy will be delighted by Costa Careyes, a complex of four private villas on the edge of the Peninsula de las Estrellas. Its piece de resistance? The 360-degree infinity pool offers panoramic views of Careyitos Beach and the dramatic cliffs of the Pacific Coast, whose water seems to flow directly into the ocean for a striking experience. Even if the hotel is only accessible by a select few, there’s still no harm in dreaming about it!
Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas This iconic complex features more than 11 swimming pools and 20 bathing areas; the most remarkable, though, is certainly the colonnaded swimming pool with large columns marked with hieroglyphics and mysterious engravings right on the edge of Cove Beach, which will be particularly appreciated by children. It contains more than 750,000 gallons of water and is distinguished by its irregular shape, perfectly adjoining the surrounding relaxation zone. It’s even possible to rent a private cabana with VIP services.
Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach, Dominican Republic Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach is ideal for travellers who may not be able to afford their dream hotel, with four pristine freshwater pools that will appeal to both parents and children. Two of them are just a few steps from the beaches of Bayahibe, bringing together the best of both worlds: a temperate and soothing environment where it’s possible to be lulled by the sound of the waves. The legendary sunsets of La Romana are epic with cocktail in hand; ideal for friends, family or lovers.
