Today, Tourism Yukon, Air North, Yukon's Airline and the Yukon Astronomical Society announced a new partnership to view the northern lights from 36,000 feet in the air.
The partnership will provide flight-goers this once-in-a-lifetime experience to see the northern lights like never before by private-chartered flight – the first of its kind in Canada – that will soar within the auroral oval for eye level northern lights viewing.
This exciting and exclusive experience will provide high-altitude views of the spectacular aurora in the Yukon sky. The group will offer one chartered flight from Whitehorse, which will take place on either November 24th or 25th pending the aurora forecast with three flexible and convenient packages to choose from, pairing one of the world's most incredible natural phenomena with Yukon's most exciting and authentic activities.
"This new aurora flight offering will capture the hearts and imaginations of travellers from everywhere, and we are incredibly excited to be part of the group pioneering a new kind of aurora tourism," says Robin Anderson, Global Marketing Manager at Tourism Yukon. "It is yet another incredible Larger than Life experience that is only available in the Yukon!"
"The northern lights is a Yukon treasure and as Yukon's airline, we're extremely excited to reward our customers with this new flight offering," says Ben Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer for Air North, Yukon's Airline. "With hints of neon colour, and then a jagged burst of green, flight-goers will be transfixed by the shimmering Aurora Borealis. Air North, Yukon's Airline is pleased to be the first airline in North America to bring this incredible experience to market."
Pre-flight welcome reception and entertainment will take place at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon. Pending final flight route, each participant will receive a certificate from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, stating that they have crossed the Arctic Circle. The partners are proud to offer three flight packages available for interested attendees:
- Aurora flight only for approximately $950 CAD
- Whitehorse aurora experience: Includes aurora flight experience, 3 nights hotel in Whitehorse starting from $1,200 CAD
- Western/Eastern Canada experience: Includes flight transportation to Whitehorse, aurora flight experience and 3 nights hotel starting at $1,635 CAD
"One of the best places to see the Aurora Borealis in the northern hemisphere is in the Yukon," says Anthony Gucciardo, President of the Yukon Astronomical Society. "This flight will allow guests to see the northern lights from within the auroral oval, meaning the area with the highest probability of seeing the northern lights. This flight will take patrons to the area of greatest aurora activity, right under the auroral oval, which changes dynamically according to how the solar wind is flowing on any particular night."
Tickets will be available for purchase starting September 18th. To purchase flights and witness this one-of-a-kind experience please visit: http://www.flyairnorth.com/DealsAndNews/Aurora360.aspx
